A person opens an app for a quick glance, then looks up later to find that the evening has gone. Digital platforms are built around a simple commercial goal: keep people engaged for as long as possible. That goal shapes the interface before it shapes the content. Push notifications create small collisions that pull attention back into the app. Streaks, badges, and rewards turn repetition into routine. Each feature lowers friction.
